Did you know that September 25th is National One-Hit Wonder Day? I had no idea there was such a day. Then again, I think there is a National Day for pretty much anything.
My favorite One-Hit Wonder is “Cotton Eye Joe” from Rednex back in 1994. Sure, there are a ton more I really enjoyed but something about the tune and banjo in this song really gets me moving. When I look over the list of top 90’s One-Hit Wonders from Ranker, I have to admit that I liked a lot of them on the list. So much so, I think I need to make myself a one-hit wonder play list.
As I draft this blog post, I can’t help signing “If it hadn’t been for Cotton-Eye Joe, I’d be married a long time ago. Where did you come from, where did you go? Where did you come from, Cotton-Eye Joe?”
Great! Now I’m going to be singing this song all night long…darn you Cotton-Eye Joe! (as I stand up, with my thumbs in my jeans belt buckle loops, I jump up and click my heals together. 😛
So who is Rednex? They are Swedish Techno/Folk/Bluegrass band. However, the song is not their original but a remix. According to Wikipedia, the song pre-dates the 1864 – 1865 American Civil War. And, I don’t think I want to share the meaning of the Rednex version. 😛
Please share with me what your favorite One-Hit Wonder is by commenting below. I would love to see if it made my list of favorites. Who knows, you might remind me of an old favorite that I might have forgotten.
Keep it Crafty,
Stephani Rogers – SoCal Stamper
