Bird Banter

Hello Crafty Friend,

I hope you had a very nice Christmas with family and friends. Today I am sharing JUST WITH YOU a couple cards I made using the new stamp set BIRD BANTER. I was lucky enough to win this item at OnStage last month in Salt Lake City, Utah. I’ll admit that I wasn’t all too excited at first until I saw some very cute cards made with this set. And of course, the cards I have made. 🙂

This set not only has cute images for bird lovers, but some fun sentiments. I love the sentiment “A little birdie told me it was your birthday”, and a second sentiment that reads “Obviously, it wasn’t an early bird.” I don’t know about you but sometimes I forget a birthday so these two sentiments would make a great card.

Here is an image of the stamp set, which includes 19 stamps. Some of the smaller stamps can be used with other stamp sets. This set is available on January 3rd.

Bird Banter

For the card below, I wanted to watercolor the bird to give it more of a colorful, organic look. To watercolor I use a Stampin’ Write Marker, clear block, water brush and watercolor paper. See steps below. Note: make sure when you are watercoloring a stamped image you are using Memento Tuxedo Black ink. Scribble a little ink on a clear acrylic block then pick up the ink with your water brush. This is a great technique when watercoloring small images.

Here is the first card I made using BIRD BANTER and below you will find all the dimensions and steps to make this card. At the end I have provided a second card using all same steps.

Product List

DIRECTIONS FOR CARD

Card Base: Lemon Lime Twist cardstock cut to 11″ x 4 1/4″, score at 5.5″ (top folding card).

Card Mat: Emerald Envy cardstock cut to 5 3/8′ x 4 1/8″, adhere with favorite adhesive to card base.

Designer Series Paper: Cut to 5″ x 3 3/4″, adhere to card mat. See image for DSP I used. There are other designs in this pack that will also work for this card.

Layering Circle Framelits: Using third largest circle scallop cut a piece of Emerald Envy cardstock and using third largest circle die cut a piece of watercolor paper. Before you adhere the watercolor paper to the scallop circle you will want to do your stamping and watercoloring. See image above for stamping bird and branch. You can choose to stamp either the bird or branch first.

Watercoloring: Using the watercolor steps above, use both Lemon Lime Twist and Emerald Envy Stampin’ Write Markers. I also used Peekaboo Peach for the beak. Make sure you are using Memento Tuxedo Black ink for stamping the bird and branch. Adhere watercolor paper to scallop die cut after coloring stamped image.

Sentiment: Stamp sentiment “You’re the kind of friend I’d share my branch with” to a scrap of Soft Sky cardstock; approximately 3 1/2″ x 1″. Tip: I find that stamping the sentiment first and then trim width to fit sentiment snug. Cut ends into fish tails.

Last Steps: Using Stampin’ Dimensionals adhere bird and sentiment to center of card; see image above for placement.

Here is another card I made with all the same pieces as my first card just switching things up. I also decided to add some sequins from the new Tutti-Frutti pack that will be available starting January 3rd.

I really hope you like my Bird Banter cards I am sharing with you today.

Keep Creating,

Stephani – SoCal Stamper

Before you go, one more look at both cards I created with the new BIRD BANTER stamp set.
